What I Made Last Week...

With the Memorial fast approaching, I made it a goal to make each one of us a dress.  I accomplished my goal and completed the dresses Thursday.  Yay me!

The first dress was Simplicity 1213.  My youngest picked this pattern and wanted view A.  Knowing that I am a sewing novice, anyone in their right mind would have followed the directions to the letter... (sigh) but noooo, not this chic.  For some reason, I decided to wing it.  Like I was a seamstress who's been sewing for years, I did what I wanted to do.  I sewed in the order I thought was best.  I didn't want to have to keep changing the thread on my sewing machine, no excuse other than just sheer laziness smh....

This was my first time working with organza  and it wasn't too bad.  It was also the first time I ever worked with bias tape, not too bad either.  The pattern called for lining, but only for the bodice.  Again, acting like I've been a seamstress for years, I decided to put lining in the skirt part as well.  Three layers of fabric for a novice.  Here's how it turned out:

My oldest chose Simplicity 2588.  This dress was really straightforward.  The directions were easy to follow.  I did however, watch professor pincushion's video for instructions on how to complete the yoke, to make sure I was doing it right.  This dress didn't require a lining, but again that 30 year experienced seamstress told me I could just throw one in.  So, I decided to line the entire dress.  Here's how it turned out:

For my dress selection, I chose McCall 6953 view D.  The dress sewed up really nicely.  The directions were easy to follow.  I didn't run into any problems.  The pattern called for lining the bodice only, but I decided to line the skirt as well.  The dress was really long and I ended up removing 4 inches.  Here's how it turned out:

I did invisible zippers in each of the dresses instead of a regular zipper.  Sadly, I will have to figure out how to take in each of our dresses as they were too big, especially my dress.  But I am still overall proud of how they all turned out!

I also made hubby's tie using Vogue 9073.  Here's how it turned out:

I feel so accomplished!  Now on to my next project.  Until then my lovelies...
Hope you have a sew gratifying week!
